Gummy Bear Osmosis
Today at the lab , we did an experiment with three gummy bears and here are some key words, later my hypothesis and finally the results.
Hypertonic: More concentration
Hipotonic: Less concentration
Isotonic: Same concentration
Hypothesis :
My hypothesis is that the red hypertonic gummy bear will change it's colour to grey and it's taste will change from sugary to salty. The colourless isotonic gummy bear will have no changes and finally, the yellow hipotonic gummy bear, will become sticky and yummy.
The results:
The red one diminished it's size considerably because the concentration of salts was higher on the outside and the bear expelled the water. Hypertonic
The colourless gummy bear had grown. This is because the concentration of salts inside the bear was higher so it absorbed the water. Hipotonic
The yellow gummy bear had more or less the same size. That's because the concentration of salts in and out of the bear was the same. So in this case, no osmosis ocurred. Isotonic
